On Tuesday, Lansdowne Venture Group (LVG) incorporating Red Driving School, Red Instructor Training and Red Fleet Training was placed into Administration whilst a sale of the company as a going concern is pursued.
The company which was founded in 1992 has 22 instructor training colleges throughout the UK. LVG also offers accountancy services to driving instructors under the FBTC brand and publishes the driving instruction industry magazine ‘ADI News’.
Red Driving School recently featured on ITV’s Tonight Programme, ‘How to Blow Your Redundancy’, during which it was alleged that they were making false claims about earning potential as a Red driving instructor.
LVG’s instructor training division (formerly known as ‘The Instructor College’), has been responsible for training thousands of potential driving instructors, but with the Part 3 pass rate at only 28%, many will not have qualified.
The number of Approved Driving Instructors on the Driving Standards Agency Register has increased dramatically from 29,000 in 1999 to over 43,000 in 2008. The number of ADI’s currently on the Register is unknown.

I can vouch that that is unfortunately only too true! RED are the most incompetent company you could ever have the misfortune to have dealings with – they have nearly bankrupted my husband as the 16-20 week course has stretched into 2 years. Coupled with the constant harassment from their association with Barclays Partner Finance, whose debt collection company – Mercers – are harassing me and my husband all day and every day by phone – I hope they do go out of business before they damage the lives of more honest people trying to make a living for themselves!
I hope things will be fix as soon as possible. For the driving school company and people involve to it.
It should be solved ASAP.
Can’t say I’ll lose any sleep over this.
A fool and his money are easily parted. People should do more research before handing over 4k to anyone. A simple google search would do
Robbing B******s.
I think driving school are in very difficult situation, because most self employed driving instructor charges are substantially lower than large established driving school, so something has to give in.
That’s just some bs so people stop complaining about their crap services
As Liverpool Driving Lessons above says, yes a simple Google search showed me that it was unwise to have signed an agreement with Red. After writing and calling twice to confirm that I wished to cancel my agreement, within the required 7 days timeframe, I was appalled to see on payday that my entire month’s wages had been removed from my bank account leaving me unable to pay my rent for the following month! After calling Head Office’s so called ‘customer services’, Lucy explained to me I would now have to wait for a cheque, but did not know how long this would take to be posted. Despite Red also having an account with the same bank as me, they were unable to arrange an instant transfer like I had been advised by my bank. Totally unacceptable that people are treated this way, and how can they be so incompetent in dealing with such a simple request? Greed. HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS COMPANY, THEY DO NOT DESERVE CUSTOMERS IF THEY CANNOT TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT.
